In the commentary track for this episode, the writers said that Chuck’s final speech to Jimmy is all true except for the last part. He actually does care about him but knows that saying he doesn’t is what would hurt Jimmy the most.
It’s retaliation for what Jimmy did to him, you could see it as.
Also interesting, while Chuck’s cold-hearted last words to Jimmy were lies (the final bit, I mean), Jimmy’s former last words to Chuck remained true. He was getting better, decided to push Jimmy away because he was too prideful to admit his own faults, and then he had an attack worse than he’s ever had, like Jimmy said he would, that would leave him suffering until he dies alone.
Knowing that the BW crew is in the rare position of having seen Hawkeye before BCS, makes me all the more excited to see their reaction to an upcoming character introduction.
its interesting that the conversation with chuck is what made jimmy realise he should stop taking advantage of the elderly woman he was probably thinking this proved he could change
